Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming a Totemic Universal, LLC licensee. Please note that the application process consists of two stages and that at each stage we at Totemic take the utmost care to review your application in its entirety. Therefore, response times vary, and at a minimum, please allow 20 business days to complete both stages.
Stage 1:
This stage consists of gathering general company information and indication of the licensing program, properties, and product categories that interest you most.
Stage 2:
In the second stage, you will be asked to provide insight into key evaluation criteria. You may be asked to prepare and submit a product launch plan, or other planning documents, including any or all of the following: category analysis, marketing plan, product design concepts, manufacturing & production information, sales & distribution capabilities, etc. Totemic also at this stage performs a fiscal health check on all licensing program candidates. This is generally done in cooperation with Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), but other procedures may be relied upon.
ABOUT TOTEMIC
Totemic acquires, develops and manages unique arts and entertainment properties. We have established a portfolio of brands, each selected for its niche presence combined with broader market appeal and potential. We leverage industry specific knowledge to develop custom-tailored consumer product licensing programs.
Each licensing program has its own particular “personality,” challenges and rewards. Understanding a property’s position, employing our marketing expertise, strategic planning and intuitive design capabilities, we endeavor to provide our clients with the most viable brand development programs in the marketplace.
Through the precise application of brand strategy, we work closely with artists and brand partners to:
- Leverage art brand licensing to merchandize related consumer products
- Identify and pursue unanticipated market exposure via event sponsorship, co-branding, product placement and related initiatives
- Protect brands through proper registration, use and defense
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Agreement Terms
We strongly believe that every relationship has its own requirements and thus we do not have a “standard agreement”. That said, it is important that we emphasize the degree to which we take pride in establishing lasting relationships with our clientele, whether licensees, distributors, manufacturers, vendors or property owners. Since entering the licensing industry in 1999, Juaquim Burch, founder and principal of Totemic, has established a licensing relationship average of over five years. This single statistic more than any other evidences our firm commitment to the development of relationships designed to be mutually beneficial over the long term.
Market
Totemic is focused on the provision of comprehensive brand management solutions and therefore generally seeks involvement on a world-wide basis for a given property. To both improve efficiency and achieve superior qualitative results, sub-agency relationships are often leveraged in territories outside of the United States.
Royalty Rates and Agency fees
Many variables are taken into consideration when determining an appropriate royalty rate. Royalty rates will be discussed in Stage 2 of the application process, but here are a few of the parameters that are taken into consideration:
- Specific property being licensed
- Product category
- Retail Tier
- Territory
- Length of Term
- Advance/Guaranteed Minimum Royalty
Distribution Channels
At Totemic, we take a holistic approach to developing and managing brands. From product or service conceptualization to launch, we work closely with retail and wholesale licensees to maximize methodical brand access within and across appropriate channels and tiers, including:
- Independent Boutiques
- Specialty store chains
- Department stores
- Online retailers
- Overseas Market Distributors

Applicant consents to the release, to any person of Totemic Universal, LLC (Totemic) and its affiliates of all information that may be relevant to an evaluation of applicant’s qualifications, including that submitted directly by applicant or publicly available information gathered by other means. Applicant releases Totemic and its employees, contractors and agents from any liability for their acts performed in good faith and without malice in obtaining information and evaluating applicant’s application. Applicant understands and agrees that applicant’s relationship with Totemic is voluntary and intended to allow the exploration of a possible future, contractual relationship. Completion of this application is in no way a guarantee of such potential future contractual relationship.
